Promise For Record Year

Shipments by General Aviation
Manufacturers Association member companies in the
first quarter of this year set a billing record at
$2.1 billion for 613 planes, 22.1% more planes
than in the same period last year. They delivered
399 piston-powered planes, 78 turboprops and 136
jets; 141 planes were exported.
The
billings were 12.3% higher, piston-engine
shipments were up 20.9% (Cessna Skylane shown),
turboprops up 44.4% and jets up 15.3%. Exports
rose 28.2%, but export billings were 30.0% below
the same period last year.

President Ed Bolen said “The momentum generated by
first quarter shipments and billings promises to
make 2000 another record year for every aspect of
general aviation.” The association, based in
Washington, D.C., represents 50 makers of general
aviation planes, engines and avionics.
